For most women, surgery is the most effective way to treat uterine cancer.

Your gynecologic oncologist may recommend other treatments, depending on your situation. Englewood Health offers the most advanced therapies, including new targeted treatments, to help manage uterine cancer successfully.

Uterine Cancer Surgery

Gynecologic oncologists at Englewood Health specialize in minimally invasive (laparoscopic) and robotic-assisted gynecologic surgery to remove the uterus and surrounding tissues (hysterectomy), if necessary. These techniques reduce the risk of complications such as blood loss during surgery, require smaller incisions, and can help you recover faster.

Englewood Health gynecological oncologists were the first in the region to have performed more than 1,000 robotic surgeries using da Vinci® surgical robots.

In many cases, our doctors complete procedures using specialized bloodless medicine and surgery techniques. For more than 20 years, we’ve helped patients from around the world avoid blood transfusions during surgery.

Medical Treatments for Uterine Cancer

In addition to surgery, your doctor may recommend other treatments to reduce the chance that uterine cancer will come back. Our Infusion Center, located on the Englewood Hospital campus, offers a comfortable and convenient experience for patients returning often for therapy. We also offer medical treatments at our Jersey City and Fair Lawn locations.

  • Chemotherapy: Use of powerful drugs to destroy uterine cancer cells, especially if the cancer has spread.
  • Hormone therapy: Reduces hormone levels (such as estrogen) to prevent tumor growth, and is often used when cancer has spread.
  • Immunotherapy: Boosts the power of the immune system to find and destroy uterine cancer cells.
  • Targeted therapy: Takes aim at the molecules driving uterine cancer growth, based on genetic testing of cancer tissue.

Radiation Therapy for Uterine Cancer

Radiation therapy may after surgery or as an alternative to surgery to kill cancer cells. It may be given externally and/or internally (brachytherapy, the placement of radioactive sources directly on tumor tissue).

Englewood Health’s radiation oncology team offers therapy that spares healthy tissue, using state-of-the-art equipment at the Coe Radiation Oncology Center at our main Englewood Hospital campus.

Geriatric Oncology for Uterine Cancer

At Englewood Health, we offer specialized care for older adults diagnosed with uterine cancer. Our team focuses on the unique needs of elderly patients, tailoring treatment plans to address both the cancer and any age-related health concerns. With a comprehensive approach that balances effective cancer treatment and maintaining quality of life, we provide personalized care that takes into account the patient's overall well-being and treatment tolerability.

Survivorship Services

After completing multidisciplinary therapy, patients are guided through a comprehensive survivorship meeting. This meeting provides an opportunity to review the treatments received and establish a personalized plan for ongoing surveillance and follow-up care. Our team will assess your current health status, discuss strategies for monitoring your recovery, and help ensure you have the necessary support for long-term well-being following uterine cancer treatment.
