Getting to Know Dr. Daniel Lieberman: A Winding Path to Urogynecology

After graduating from Colgate University in New York with an undergraduate degree in marine science (and a 30-day oceanographic research expedition on his résumé), Dr. Lieberman joined the Peace Corps. His assignment in a small Indigenous village in Belize cemented his future path.

“I worked with community members on improving basic hygiene and partnered with the local school to teach public health, including sexual education,” Dr. Lieberman says. “That experience of providing health information that many of us take for granted brought me to my passion for helping people instead of studying microorganisms in the ocean.”

Transforming Lives, One Patient at a Time

Dr. Lieberman attended St. George’s University School of Medicine before completing a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at RWJBarnabas Health Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in New Jersey. He joined Englewood Health in 2024 after finishing a fellowship in urogynecology and reconstructive pelvic surgery at New York’s Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

As a urogynecologist, Dr. Lieberman treats disorders of the pelvic floor, the muscles and tissues supporting the bladder and female reproductive organs. Common pelvic floor disorders include urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse (when pelvic organs drop out of position). Dr. Lieberman helps women find relief using treatments ranging from pelvic floor therapy and medications to robotic and vaginal surgeries.

“I love helping patients improve their quality of life after many of them have lived with these problems for years without friends or family knowing,” Dr. Lieberman says. “I can’t tell you how many of my patients were led to believe they had to live with pelvic pain or leaking urine. Being able to help them is so gratifying.”

‘Amazing Experiences’

Dr. Lieberman is impressed by the bloodless program at Englewood Health.

“Since I joined Englewood Health, I’ve treated bloodless patients and have had amazing experiences working with them,” he says. “These experiences taught me so much about bloodless medicine. Our bloodless program is such a valuable asset.”

“Dr. Lieberman put me at ease by answering all my questions,” reports a current patient of Dr. Lieberman who is enrolled in our bloodless program. “He never made me feel rushed or uncomfortable. On the day of my surgery, he was very kind in assuring me that everything would be fine, and he even called me personally the next day to check on me.”
