Our Nurse Residency Program is designed for new nurses looking for a full- or part-time job that also offers intensive training and development opportunities.

This one-year program supports new nurse graduates as they transition into their first role as professional caregivers.

The Nurse Residency Program goals are:

• Support the novice nurse in the transition from novice to competent professional nurse in the clinical environment.
• Develop effective decision-making skills related to clinical judgment and safety in the healthcare environment.
• Provide clinical nursing leadership, in conjunction with the interprofessional team, at the point of care.
• Incorporate evidence-based practice to inform decision-making at the point of care.
• Encourage professional progression and a commitment to lifelong learning.

Program Objective and Emphasis

The structured program adopts the Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program model. Each resident is assigned a preceptor who guides the hands-on clinical experience. The program prepares nursing graduates to:

• Care for patients with increasing levels of acuity and complexity in the hospital setting.
• Develop clinical nursing leadership at point of care.
• Improve patient safety and quality of care.
• Foster critical thinking skills.
• Bring evidence-based and research based practice to the bedside.
• Strengthen the commitment to the profession of nursing and develop individual career goals.
• Facilitate clinical and leadership skills necessary to be a successful member of the health care team.

Curriculum

To support new nurses in their career, the program curriculum includes:

• A 4-day general nursing orientation for all nurses new to Englewood Health.
• Unit/specialty-specific orientation (duration is personalized to your role).
• A 3-day introduction to the Nurse Residency Program following the hospital orientation. This introduction includes an IV course with certificate and continuing education credits.
• Participation in monthly four-hour seminars over 12 months, which may include lectures, group work, simulation activities, and other learning activities.

Eligibility and Application

Nurses with less than one year experience who are hired by Englewood Health are automatically enrolled into the program. Additionally, candidates must commit to the one-year residency program.

Education Requirements

You must hold a nursing degree from a program accredited by the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission (NLNAC) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
